Globalization and industrialization may have brought the world closer and made lives more comfortable, but they have also created large-scale pollution and environmental damage. Long before climate change and global warming became an internationally critical issue, a children’s book in 1971 warned about such a crisis. Today’s collection of coloring pages is inspired by the same book, Dr. Suess’ The Lorax, and its 2012 film adaptation.
The Lorax tells the story of Once-ler, an ambitious innovator who chanced upon the Truffula trees and cut down the entire forest to manufacture a material called “Thneed” from its foliage, thereby causing widespread environmental destruction. The guardian of the forest, the Lorax, appears after the first tree is cut, warning him several times over the years. Once-ler narrates his tale of regret to a young boy named Ted from Thneedville, the town with plastic trees, run by another evil businessman named Aloysius O’Hare, who sells air to the people and keeps them from learning the truth.
Hope remains alive when Once-ler gives Ted the last Truffula tree seed that can germinate and save the people of Thneedville.
