“Make room for new emotions” everyone, as “Inside Out 2” has arrived in the theatres near you to take you all once again on an emotional roller coaster. It can’t be just me who waited this long for the sequel of “Inside Out”, arguably, one of the best Pixar movies made to date.

“Inside Out 2 picks up around 2 years after the end of the first movie. Riley is a cute, happy-go-lucky 11-year-old girl in the first part, but in the second part, she hits puberty, and with that comes flooding a range of new emotions, namely- Anxiety, Embarrassment, Envy and Ennui. Not trying to spoil it, but the early reviews suggest that the movie is already a hit. It’s mesmerizing, to say the least. The intense emotional turmoil projected in the movie shakes you from within.

Since Riley is in high school now, working hard on securing a position in the school’s hockey team, she faces some major challenges and choices. One of the toughest challenges for her is to maintain both old and new friendships. Along with that, she has a pimple that simply refuses to go.

All the new emotions, along with the existing ones introduced in the first movie (Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust, and Sadness) create havoc in Riley’s mind headquarters. The new emotions, led by Anxiety want Riley to change her core belief. They believe that the original emotions are no longer needed as they are redundant and are keeping Riley from enjoying her new life.

Due to all of this, Riley’s mind gets too occupied with negative memories and thoughts, leading to emotional outbursts and panic attacks at regular intervals. So will Riley be able to navigate through all these complexities that her teenage self has put forth?

Puberty is one of the most sensitive transitions in a person’s life. It affects the personality and belief system of an individual dramatically. Teenagers start craving independence and dislike interference of any kind from anyone, even parents. the movie“Inside Out 2” puts forward this phase very sensibly in front of all of us. And it’s truly commendable how well the movie plays out all of these emotions in front of the audience.

To conclude, I loved the second part of the movie. Disney/Pixar has done a brilliant job at presenting new emotions and not overshadowing the old ones that we have been in love with for a decade. I sincerely hope that parents also take a lesson or two from this movie and be more understanding towards their teenagers. Teenage is a difficult time, hence parents must do their best to honor and understand all the emotions, trials, and challenges that come with this phase.
