June is derived from the original fourth month of the Roman calendar, mensis lunius, which was named after the ancient Roman goddess Juno. The sixth month in the present Gregorian calendar, June consists of 30 days, including the day with the longest daylight hours known as the summer solstice, in the Northern Hemisphere.
June is recorded to be one of the hottest months of the year, signaling the time for harvesting major crops like maize, barley and rice, and also marks the peak ripening season of fruits like mangoes and cherries among others.
