The third Monday of every February is celebrated as Presidents’ Day in the United States. It’s the day to remember and honor the contributions of all the presidents who have made America the country that it is today.
Most kids and even adults, see it as a day off from work and school, but only a few are aware of the main point behind the holiday. Presidents’ Day came into force in 1971 to create more three-day weekends for the civilians, in an effort to inspire productivity. It began with the idea that by mid-February, the effects of winter holidays begin to fade, hence people need a short break to recuperate.

Presidents’ Day is a federal holiday that was founded in honor of George Washington, whose birthday falls on the 22nd of February. Over time, the holiday started recognizing Abraham Lincoln, who was born on the 12th of February, and other Presidents as well. The Uniform Monday Holiday Act in 1971 moved the holiday to the third week of February to create a long weekend for the citizens.
