It’s simply crazy how popular Kuromi, the queen of punk and goth has become all across the world. Born on 31st October, the day of Halloween, Kuromi, the white rabbit is a character from the “My Melody” universe.
Donning a jester’s hat with a pink skull on it, Kuromi made her first appearance in the year 2005 as My Melody’s doppelganger, rival, and antagonist of “Onegai My Melody”. What’s interesting is that the expression of the pink skull on her forehead keeps changing to match her mood. But under that strong and tough personality lies a soft and romantic girl who keeps falling for good-looking guys.
Kuromi was created as an alter ego of My Melody and was supposed to be dark and mischievous. And it’s because of these very reasons she became highly popular, soon after her debut. This naughty and mischievous character even surpassed My Melody in popularity and rankings in a short period. But as years passed, Kuromi became more kind and friendly, as showcased in the current series of “Hello Kitty” and “My Melody”.
Kuromi’s family comprises only her parents and sister Romina, and surprisingly, all four of them look very similar to each other. Even though Kuromi’s parents love her immensely, they do not agree with her actions. They try their best to prevent Kuromi from falling into the Dark Power’s possession but fail to do so.
It is later revealed in the show that Kuromi has an older sister, named Romina, who left home to defeat an evil organization a long time ago. Kuromi then starts a quest to find her sister, and even does so, only to realize that Romina isn’t an individual but an illusion from the wishing stone. Later, Romina’s body vanishes and the stone returns to its original form.
Kuromi is also the leader of a biker gang comprising only females. It’s another thing that the bikes are tricycles with some cool modifications. The gang includes Wanmi, an orange dog, Chumi, a white rat, Konmi, a white fox, and Nyanmi, a purple cat and also Kuromi’s best friend.
